Steve M. Smith
STEVE M. SMITH is a native of Southeast Texas, born in Port Arthur. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in organizational management from Texas A&M University in 1979. Following graduation, Mr. Smith relocated to Palm Beach County, Florida and began his career with Allstate Insurance Company in 1980 as a claims adjuster. His career at Allstate included attaining positions of property claim manager and staff claim analyst. He was the recipient of Allstate’s Chairman’s Award, an annual national award recognizing outstanding customer service, a topic that was featured on the Paul Harvey radio program. He remained at Allstate Insurance Company until January 1992, when he accepted a paralegal position at Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, P.A.
Mr. Smith works primarily with attorney F. Gregory Barnhart and is responsible for investigating and evaluating cases involving medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, motor vehicle and aviation disasters, wrongful death, products liability, and bad faith insurance litigation. Mr. Smith is an associate member of the Florida Justice Association.
Committed to remaining active in community service, Mr. Smith serves as a mentor in the Cities in Schools Project, a dropout prevention program. He was a founding board member of Turtle Nest Village, which provides housing and training to disenfranchised foster children. Mr. Smith is also active within the local political community and has volunteered as a poll watcher in many Palm Beach County elections.
