Mr. Kugler began his legal career at the Office of the State Attorney in Palm Beach County, where he prosecuted more than 100 jury trials, ranging from drunk driving offenses to capital sexual battery to death penalty cases. He gained national media attention with the conviction of a former television weatherman who sexually preyed on young and vulnerable teenagers.
Since he joined Searcy Denney, Mr. Kugler has turned his attention to holding some of the largest national and international companies responsible for putting their profits over consumer safety, battling automakers Mercedes Benz, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Fiat Chrysler and tire manufacturer Michelin. He has also represented firm clients in wrongful death and catastrophic injury claims against makers of medical devices and major hospitals such as Tenet and HCA.
Drawing upon his previous prosecutorial experience, Mr. Kugler continues to pursue justice for clients who were sexually assaulted. Currently, he is a member of Palm Beach County’s Sexual Assault Response Team, which created and operates the county’s first dedicated sexual assault examination site. SART coordinates the medical, law enforcement, forensic, and legal response to sexual violence in the community.
A native Californian, Mr. Kugler first came to South Florida as a student on scholarship at the University of Miami. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, he worked as a licensed stockbroker in Boca Raton. He earned his law degree from Nova Southeastern University Law School, where he was a member of multiple trial teams and vice president of the school’s trial organization.
