The Takata airbag recall has expanded beyond the commonplace vehicles manufactured by  Honda, Chrysler and Nissan.

In July, luxury car maker Ferrari recalled 2,600 car models ranging in price from the hundreds of thousands to upwards of a million dollars due to an improperly installed driver’s side airbag. Ferrari reports the airbag component was “improperly assembled” causing an improper rotation deployment.

Although seemingly not related to the problems associated with other Takata recalls by Honda, at least according to Ferrari, the problems for airbag manufacturer Takata continue, with no end in sight.  This news comes on the heels of Honda announcing an expansion of its recall, including a recall of another 4.5 million vehicles, including the Honda CR-V, Honda Fit and Honda Stream.  The total number of vehicles now recalled by Honda are close to 25 million and counting.

Global car makers, including General Motors, Honda and the venerable BMW are in the process of trying to manage recalling over 34 million cars just in the United States. The Takata debacle now represents the single largest recall in United States History.
